Rautavaara was a Finnish composer of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

He evolved as a composer, starting out as a Mid-Century modernist of sorts, eventually finding his own compositional voice in musical mysticism.

At the point of creating this composer page, I am really only familiar with a few short choral pieces from Rautavaara. All this means is, my mind is open to whatever the composer brings.
Thus I will be entirely in exploratory mode in Rautavaara's music.

Rautavaara has been particularly well served by the Ondine Records label of Finland, particularly from Finnish conductor Leif Segerstam, although there are others who have found interest in the composer across the decades.
