Richard Wetz

Richard Wetz
1875-1935

Wetz is one in a series of late-Romantic composers I tried a few years ago, when I was in the mood for such things.

His is a genre I've not cared much for in the past, but I have also found I am more open to enjoying such music than I remembered. A fine example of the mind not knowing what it wants.

Wetz is not the most well represented in the recorded catalogue, yet he has a fair numbers of works set down. A trio of symphonies, a concerto, a few large-scale choral works, and I think some chamber music.

Unfortunately, Wetz, like Joseph Marx, is historically entangled with the Nazi Party. If such things prevented a music lover to avoid the music of Wetz, I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Most of the recordings dedicated to Wetz's music are found on CPO, a very enterprising Classical Music recording label.
