Pablo de Sarasate

Pablo Sarasate
1844-1908

A Spanish violinist who was well known for his amazing technique and prowess on his instrument.

Like Niccolò Paganini before him, Sarasate wrote music purely for him to perform and tour with.

This leads to exciting and worthwhile violin soloistics, but relatively unoriginal music for piano or orchestra.

Sarasate's music is imbued with Spanish flair, where the titles of his works often reflect the composer's heritage.

Perhaps his most famous encore piece remains the Carmen Fantasy, followed by the Zigeunerweisen, a sort of Romani-influenced virtuoso showpiece.
