Giacomo Puccini
1858-1924
I most associate Puccini with opera, particularly of the late-Romantic, verismo variety.
Because my visiting of opera is infrequent, my general knowledge of opera composers are of the surface variety.
But as with Cherubini, Rossini, and Verdi, whom I have recently covered on this blog, there is enough outside of opera to warrant a small presence here for the time being.
Plus, who knows; as with other music genres I have left in a dusty corner, but have since picked up with great joy, opera could be my next to explore.
Otherwise, I am mostly familiar with Puccini for some small choral works, music for string quartet, and bleeding chunks from his operas.
